The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag might read in our day more like the following:

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the Divided States of America, and to the Republic for which it once stood: Half the Nation under God and the other half not, mostly now divisible, With Liberty and Justice  for those with the loudest voice and the most money."
