ALaska Mission Voyage 101
After over 12 months of planning and connecting the dots a missions trip to Alaska has come to the runway in Atlanta. One of my seat mates is Isaiah who is 10 years old. Wayne from church sits between us and we are about to hit the skys for a 7 hour flight to a cool 65 degrees off the coast of the far reaches of America the beautiful. The plane is packed and many are headed for vacation and fishing. We met up with 8 others from Virginia and we are scattered all over the plane. When we land it will be 1030 est time and only 630pm local time. Over the course of our 12 days we will only have a total of 24 hours of dark night time and the rest is sunlight.
The pastor forgot we were coming so we called and the pastors son and another man picked us up. We had dinner at a local eatery and off to the church. Russ told us the population is only about 500,000 in Alaska and about 270,000 live in the anchorage area. The next biggest city is Fairbanks where we head tomorrow by train and it is 8 hours away. The people here are from all over the world. The pastor's son said they moved here 4 years ago and he like it now. Out first night lodging is on the floor of the sanctuary on matts. I choose to sleep in from of the altar. Its after 2 am back home and all the men are sleeping, but I am trying to adjust and plan to stay up another 30 minutes to 11PM locally and up at 5 am. - trust the Lord will bless our efforts and we pray and work our way toward the interior tomorrow in preparation to work on the foundation of the twins rivers community church first thing Wednesday morning. We have to back hoe a ditch along the building over 8 feet deep and 4 week wide. The rest of that story later on the week. Day 1 Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T
